What is a watch insurance appraisal?
A watch insurance appraisal is a signed certificate stating your watch's full retail replacement value, which you give your insurer to schedule the piece on your policy. MODA Watches prepares it remotely for $50 per watch, delivers it as a signed PDF within hours, and it stays valid for two years.

What insurers look for in a watch appraisal.
Every insurer sets its own rules, so ask your insurance agent what they need before you order one. Some watch policies start from a receipt, the serial number and photos, and only ask for an appraisal once the watch passes a set value or the receipt is old or missing. When they do ask for one, they usually want:
- 01The retail replacement value, meaning what it would cost to buy the same watch from a dealer today
- 02A full description of the watch, including the brand, model, reference number and serial number
- 03The date the appraisal was written and who prepared it
Our certificate states the replacement value and describes the watch in full: the case, dial, bracelet, its condition and whether the box and papers come with it. It also carries a certificate number, the date of issue and a signature. Watch prices move, so if your last appraisal is more than two years old, or your receipt is from years ago, the amount on your policy may not cover what the watch costs to replace today.
Insurance value is not resale value
The replacement value on an insurance appraisal is what a dealer would charge you for the same watch today. Resale value is what a dealer would pay you for it, and that number is lower. If you want the serial checked before you insure the watch, our serial check runs it through the brand's own records and sends back the factory record and whether the watch has been reported stolen.
